Ray MessierRay Messier has over 20 years of experience in public transit as a bus operator and a union officer/president. In his capacity as union president he worked collaboratively with management to create a better work place by building a mentor and apprenticeship program. For the last three plus years, he has worked closely with California Transit Works, helping California ATU locals and their agencies build their own programs. Ray has the ability to assist both labor and management to create a labor/management partnership and to guide them through the process of developing mentor/apprenticeship programs including hands on training.

Peter SimonPeter Simon has years of experience in linking labor/management workforce development programs and community colleges in California. As a college administrator who also has a background as an apprentice and journeyman carpenter, he has helped to create training programs and apprenticeships in a wide range of sectors including health care, construction, culinary arts, automotive and diesel mechanics, and logistics. Peter has the capacity to assist in accessing the curriculum and financial resources of community college, developing “local educational agency” relationship with colleges, and the “nuts and bolts” of linking apprenticeship and other training programs with educational institutions.

Cassidy BennettAside from being a veteran from the USCG, Cassidy Bennett has been in the transportation industry for 36 years. She has been a bus operator for 15 years, a transportation supervisor in charge of the bus operator training for 17 years and retired as superintendent of safety and training prior to starting work with California Transit Works!. She understands the labor/ management partnership well as she has had a career ladder being represented by a union to working closely with the union.
Susan YatesSusan Yates has over 18 years in the transit industry as a bus operator, Line Instructor, JWI coordinator and she is currently a transportation instructor at Mission College in Santa Clara. Susan has worked closely with both union and management to help build a better work place through Mentor/Apprenticeship programs. Susan has worked with California Transit Works for the last 3 years and is dedicated and knowledgeable, and her experience has been an asset to other agencies who are building their own mentor/apprenticeship programs.
Robert Hannibal-Southern California Project Director
Robert Hannibal is the Southern California Project Director for CTW. He started his career as a bus operator for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Agency (VTA) in August of 1986 and completed his career in transit after 35 years of service. During that time, he worked as dispatcher for 15 years, a Joint Workforce Investment (JWI) Peer Mentor for 12 years, and a JWI Coordinator for 4 years. As the JWI Coordinator, Mr. Hannibal designed and implemented multiple systems and programs that best met the needs of new operators, peer mentors, and VTA. He regularly made presentations to hundreds of veteran operators and led discussions on what it means to be a professional operator during annual required re-certification training (both bus and light rail). He also led new a series of JWI programs for transit radio dispatchers and yard dispatchers. Mr. Hannibal was also instrumental in designing agency-wide programs such as the annual JWI Health and Wellness Fair, open to all VTA employees. As the JWI Coordinator, Mr. Hannibal worked with CTW to help other agencies in the Bay Area develop their Peer Mentor programs. He was also part of a
Transportation Learning Center (TLC) committee that worked with several other agencies across the U.S. in developing Peer Mentor programs at their agencies. In the 12 years of being a part of JWI, Mr. Hannibal has been dedicated to the JWI Mentor/Apprenticeship program, as well as helping other agencies develop their programs. He is now continuing his passion for labor-management training partnerships through his work with CTW. |
